Rapid Room‐Temperature, Chemoselective Csp2 −Csp2 Coupling of Poly(pseudo)halogenated Arenes Enabled by Palladium(I) Catalysis in Air

While chemoselectivities in Pd0 -catalyzed coupling reactions are frequently non-intuitive and a result of a complex interplay of ligand/catalyst, substrate, and reaction conditions, we herein report a general method based on PdI that allows for an a priori predictable chemoselective Csp2 -Csp2 coupling at C-Br in preference to C-OTf and C-Cl bonds, regardless of the electronic or steric bias o...

Selective production of arenes via direct lignin upgrading over a niobium-based catalyst

Lignin is the only large-volume renewable source of aromatic chemicals. Efficient depolymerization and deoxygenation of lignin while retaining the aromatic functionality are attractive but extremely challenging. Here we report the selective production of arenes via direct hydrodeoxygenation of organosolv lignin over a porous Ru/Nb2O5 catalyst that enabled the complete removal of the oxygen cont...

Metal-free oxidative decarbonylative coupling of aromatic aldehydes with arenes: direct access to biaryls.

A metal-free oxidative decarbonylative coupling of aromatic aldehydes with electron-rich or electron-deficient arenes to produce biaryl compounds was developed. This novel coupling was proposed to proceed via a non-chain radical homolytic aromatic substitution (HAS) type mechanism, based on the substrate scope, ortho-regioselectivity, radical trapping experiments and DFT calculation studies. Wi...

Rules Governing Selective Protein Carbonylation

BACKGROUND Carbonyl derivatives are mainly formed by direct metal-catalysed oxidation (MCO) attacks on the amino-acid side chains of proline, arginine, lysine and threonine residues. For reasons unknown, only some proteins are prone to carbonylation. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS we used mass spectrometry analysis to identify carbonylated sites in: BSA that had undergone in vitro MCO, and 23...

Direct Csp2-H enolization: an allenoate alkylation cascade toward the assembly of multi-substituted furans.

A new disconnection toward tri- and tetrasubstituted furans has been conceptualized and demonstrated. A mild, base-mediated reaction of an allenoate pronucleophile with α-halo ketones/dicarbonyl compounds results in a Csp2-alkylation/enolization/O-vinylation sequence to ultimately afford substituted furan derivatives. The reaction offers a broad scope, provides a facile access to alkyl and aryl...
